Liam* is a student from my ministry site that I REALLY wanted to go to camp! Liam has a difficult time grasping many of the aspects of God because he tends to think in very concrete terms when it comes to life and to faith. Throughout the school year I was able to see him cracking open a little and admitting that he can see how some people can see God in a more emotional sense.
It was good to have him in an environment where adults were opening up and even crying over how much they are moved by the love and presence of God. In our club times at night he kept leaning over, and asking if the camp speaker, Chris, was crying when he was clearly emotional about how God saved him from a life of destruction. Hearing Chris’ story led to a good moment to share about being vulnerable and that letting God work in your vulnerability is powerful.
I am praying that, since this was his first time at an overnight YFC camp, he will see what being around other Christian students looks like and that he will ask more questions about God and faith in the future.
